Diseases in the Kingdom—and the Known World at large—are a rarity. The world-ending plagues described in the archives of the vanished races are long gone. Today, most ailments are simply a lack of speed, strength, or willpower.
Dr. Mortimer’s elixirs have become an industry. His raven apprentices fly across the Kingdom, taking orders and delivering potions. While they lack the boutique, hand-crafted perfection of Ugly Max’s brews, they reliably get the job done.
Despite his massive commercial success, the Doctor never gets arrogant. He refuses to deny a personal house call at any hour of the day or night when a patient requires precise, bespoke dosing.
The classic example? King Longbeard’s hangovers.
The King is a notorious fan of “Fire Elixirs” and will consume absolutely anything, from anywhere, as long as it contains enough alcohol. The consequences for the royal court can be terrifying, and standard hangover cures only make things worse. That’s when Dr. Mortimer swoops in.
Gathering knowledge from his homeland—the West Lands (almost all ravens hail from there; there is something about those graveyards that acts like a magnet for Mortimer’s large family), earning his doctorate at the Academia, and mastering local Royal traditions, he has no equal in finding the exact ingredients and proportions to fix the King’s latest crisis.
This is probably why the King turns a blind eye to the Doctor’s “contraband” ingredients, and doesn’t worry that half his subjects are hopelessly addicted to Dr. Mortimer’s Remedies.
