Current status: Perfectly reliable now. Still the punchline of every port tavern.
Developed by Coral Alchemist , Formula available: Basic
KNOWN BACKGROUND:
Years ago, the Kingdom had no proper maps and no navy. King Longbeard sent young Midshipman Tidewell east to chart the waters. He returned with maps so exquisite, so detailed, so perfect that the entire court gasped. Every rock marked. Every depth measured. Wind speeds, water temperatures—pure artistry.
Naturally, when the Kingdom needed a captain for its new Royal Fleet, there was only one choice: Captain Barny Tidewell!
Months passed. No ship. No word. (This was before the Tech Empire’s fancy communication tiles, obviously.) Finally, Bastian, the court astrologer located the fleet… in the Southern Seas. Very far south.
When Captain Tidewell eventually returned, he explained simply: “The maps, Your Majesty.”
“You got lost following your own maps?”
“Precisely, sire.”
King Longbeard, being a good king and a good sport, laughed until he cried. Then he let Tidewell keep commanding the fleet. The captain proved perfectly competent afterward.
But to this day, in every tavern along the Sapphire Coast, sailors still tell the story. They still raise grotesque toasts. They still snicker behind their tankards.
Captain Tidewell: the man who made the perfect map and sailed in the wrong direction anyway.
