KNOWN BACKGROUND:
After Seraphina, Mrs. Lissie Foxworth is the favorite subject of the Academy gossipers. There are all kinds of stories about her wild youth, especially since she and the rabbit grew up together. Her maiden name, Trickster, is often presented as proof
None of them are true.
Lissie grew up on her father’s estate. Her father, Lord Trickster, was a minor nobleman and a collector of all sorts of strange objects from around the world. As his only child, Lissie was expected to receive all the lessons a young lady needed in order to find a suitable husband of good family. She preferred walking through the forest to embroidery. She preferred digging through her father’s dusty artifacts to dancing lessons. And solving puzzles and riddles was much more interesting than learning proper manners. Fortunately, Lissie had a very sharp mind and was remarkably good at escaping lessons she found boring.
Lord Trickster also owned a well-equipped laboratory. He knew very little about alchemy, but he loved showing it off to his friends.
Everything changed when he asked Lissie to join him on an expedition to the Cannibal Lands. They had discovered an ancient laboratory built by the long-vanished race of giants. Lord Trickster had supposedly studied everything there was to know about the place. Unfortunately, he still managed to fall into a trap. A stone door closed behind him, leaving him trapped in a small room filled with bottled elixirs. He might still be there today (probably not entirely alive) if Lissie hadn’t been with him. She studied the strange symbols on the walls, managed to understand them, and found a way to open the door.
After this incident, Lord Trickster did not object when Lissie announced that she wanted to study at the Academy. Quite the opposite. He encouraged her.
At the Academy, Lissie met a handsome young Mr. Foxworth. Their friendship eventually became something more, and her father was delighted—even though the young man came from a wealthy family without the noble lineage Lord Trickster had originally hoped for.
The rest is well known. The Foxworths are still considered one of the Academy’s model couples. Their dozens of mischievous little fox kits, however, have a strange habit of appearing absolutely everywhere.
